The Maharaja Lela-class frigates are designed for littoral warfare. They are equipped with a 57mm Bofors gun, two 30mm DS30M cannons, 16 MICA vertical launch system (VLS) anti-air missiles, eight Naval Strike Missiles, and two triple torpedo launchers. The ships also have a helicopter deck and hangar.

The Maharaja Lela-class frigates are 111 meters (364 ft) long, 16 meters (52 ft) wide, and have a draught of 3.85 meters (12.6 ft). They are powered by two diesel engines and two electric motors. The ships have a maximum speed of 28 knots (52 km/h; 32 mph) and a range of 4,500 nautical miles (8,334 km; 5,183 mi).

The Maharaja Lela-class frigates are a major part of the RMN’s modernization program. The ships will replace the RMN’s ageing fleet of frigates and corvettes. The ships will be used to protect Malaysia’s maritime interests and to conduct maritime security operations.***
