Supported by China, Egypt Successfully Launches MisrSat 2 Satellite & Here’s Its Function… The Egyptian Space Agency, in collaboration with China, successfully launched the MisrSat 2 satellite. This satellite mission aims to improve the agricultural sector, explore mineral resources, identify surface water sources and study the impact of climate change on the environment.

“This launch was carried out within the framework of the strategic partnership between the Egyptian and Chinese governments, as well as the productive and constructive cooperation between the two friendly countries,” the Egyptian Space Agency wrote, as quoted by Arabnews, on Tuesday (12/05/2023.) ).

The MisrSat 2 satellite is an Earth observation satellite built by the Egyptian Space Agency (EgSA) in collaboration with the Chinese National Space Agency (CNSA). The satellite was launched on 17 January 2023 from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Centre in China on a Grand March-2C carrier rocket.

The MisrSat 2 satellite weighs 700 kilograms and orbits at an altitude of 700 kilometres above the Earth’s surface. The satellite is equipped with a high-resolution optical camera that can produce images with a spatial resolution of up to 1 metre.

The main mission of the MisrSat 2 satellite is to support sustainable development in Egypt.

This satellite will be used for a variety of applications, including:

○ Monitoring of agriculture and natural resources.
○ Urban planning and disaster management.
○ Climate and environmental

○ Change monitoring
○ Scientific research

MisrSat 2 is the second satellite launched by EgSA. The first satellite, MisrSat 1, was launched in 2010.

The following are the technical specifications of the MisrSat 2 satellite:

○ Dimensions: 1.5 metres x 1.5 metres x 2.5 metres
○ Weight: 700 kilograms
○ Orbit: 700 kilometres
○ Spatial resolution: 1 metre
○ Durability: 5 years

● These are some of the expected benefits of the MisrSat 2 satellite:

○ Increase agricultural productivity
○ Increase water use efficiency.
○ Improve natural resource management
○ Improve urban planning
○ Help monitor climate and environmental changes.
○ Increase scientific research.

The MisrSat 2 satellite is an important step for Egypt to develop its capacity in the space sector. This satellite will provide important benefits for sustainable development in Egypt.***
